Description
This course focuses on prominent social justice related struggles in South Asia, past and present, around key thematics such as colonialism, caste oppression, gender-based violence and LGBTQ+ rights, freedom of speech, and other democratic struggles faced by minoritized communities, and responses to state violence. The course draws on ethnographic material from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka from diverse perspectives. Prerequisites: upper-division standing.
