Description
Scientists and social scientists alike agree that the human body is a “biopsychosocial” entity. This course will begin to provide an understanding of the body as not just a biological or physiological thing, but rather something that is also social, cultural, and political. Drawing from anthropology, philosophy, and disability studies, this course will cover topics including how the body is viewed cross-culturally and how it shapes our interactions and experiences of the world. Prerequisites: upper-division standing.
