Description
Linguistic anthropology studies human sign systems—especially, but not only, language—in and as culture. In tracing the subfield’s key theories and methods, this course offers all students interested in ethnography a foundation for exploring how interaction mediates such social structures as race and ethnicity, class, gender, and more. Fulfills the core requirement in linguistic anthropology. Course formerly numbered as ANTH 263. Students will not receive credit for both ANTH 263 and ANTH 280F. Prerequisites: graduate standing.
