Description

This course reviews theoretical models and processes of reading, history, nature of scripts (alphabetic, syllabic, morpho-syllabic), and the science of reading (brain/neuroscience); the cognitive relationships between signed/spoken language and print when learning to read across languages and home literacies. Word recognition, vocabulary, fluency, reading comprehension, and engagement within diverse communities (multilingual, neurodiverse, blind/deaf) are examined. Prerequisites: upper-division standing or consent of instructor.
