Description
This course examines the history of Greece and the Balkans (1914–2001). Topics covered: World War I, population exchanges, authoritarianism, modernization, World War II, civil wars, Cold War, Greek-Turkish relations, Cyprus, collapse of communism, 1990s conflicts, and EU expansion. Students may not get credit for both HIEU 116C and HIEU 116CD or HIEU 116CD or HIEU 117B.
