Uses English-language verse and lyrics to illuminate major issues in twentieth- and twenty-first-century history, society, and culture. Topics include war, revolution, social justice movements, counterculture, identity and discrimination, sexuality, mass society, technology, economic change and hardship, individualism, freedom, authoritarianism, religion.
