Description
This course explores the movement of people, goods, and ideas in the Indian Ocean world, placing the history of India in an oceanic and connective context. It treats the Indian Ocean as an interregional arena, connecting the regions now known as South Asia, Southeast Asia, West Asia, and East Africa. It analyzes changes and continuities in these connections from pre-colonial empires to European trade and colonization, and finally the emergence of nation-states. +
