Description
This class explores the fascinating and multifaceted world of magic in the ancient world, encompassing Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Near Eastern traditions, among others. This course delves into the various magical text genres, beliefs, and rituals that permeated ancient cultures, examining their social, religious, and historical contexts. Students will investigate how magical texts were understood and utilized, and how they intersected with religion, medicine, and daily life.
