Description
This course offers a window into the patterns, drivers, and consequences of substance use from a public health perspective. It also introduces various prevention, treatment, and harm reduction approaches. Through assessment of current epidemiologic data, application of conceptual frameworks, engagement with researchers and practitioners, and reflection on prevention, treatment, and harm reduction policies and strategies, we will explore the complexity of substance use and population health. Prerequisites: must be enrolled in MPH program (PB75, PB87, and PB89). Students cannot receive credit for PH 429 if they have already completed FMPH 491 subtitled “Substance Use and Population Health.”
