Description
This course provides an overview of the forces that shaped the human brain and behavior over our evolutionary history. The first part of the course will provide the key background on evolutionary principles and human natural history. The second part of the course will delve into the origins of defining characteristics of human cognition, such as language and theory of mind, by drawing on our understanding of both human evolution and comparisons with our living nonhuman primate relatives. Prerequisites: upper-division standing.
