Description

This course explores how institutions, policies, and politics affect planning for natural hazards and climate adaptation. Students will learn to assess the impact of current governance systems on hazard risk, evaluate existing mitigation and adaptation plans, and understand the barriers to equitable disaster readiness and recovery. The focus of this course is on what we can do to reduce the losses from floods, fires, and other extreme weather events, considering the progression of climate change. Prerequisites: upper-division standing or consent of instructor.
