Description
Course examines the broader history of photography. We will discuss various technological processes associated with the early dissemination of photography and explore the ways in which this new medium transformed existing social and cultural practices, primarily in Europe and the United States during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. We will examine photographic artists, as well as photographers working in a range of areas, from criminology and advertising to journalism and war photography. This course is a distance education course. Students may not receive credit for both VIS 83 and VIS 83R. Prerequisites: none.
